How do I get my Chinese book published in English?
Many Chinese authors make the mistake of assuming that they should have their entire manuscript translated before it will be picked up by an English-language publisher. This is not generally the case. In fact, even for a book originally written in English, most English-language publishers do not wish to see the entire manuscript upon submission. General practice is to include a synopsis of the book and the first chapter (sometimes up to three chapters). Once the book is accepted by the publisher, the entire manuscript can be translated. Ideally the publisher should be responsible for locating the best translator for the job, and payment for full manuscript translation should be negotiated between the publisher and translator, without any involvement from the author.
